I had the pleasure of spending a beautiful day in downtown Plano with Preston and Melissa two weeks ago for their engagement session. I have had the pleasure of knowing Melissa since my college years through mutual friends and both being art education majors at the University of North Texas. I was honored and excited when she contacted me to be her wedding photographer! Here are some of my favorite images from our session while we walked around the downtown Plano square. Enjoy!

Meet James and Jennifer. I was completely humbled and surprised when Jennifer first contacted me and told me she stumbled upon my site by typing in “Best Photographer in Dallas” in google. How can you not love a client who finds you that way, right? When we began discussing locations for their engagement session Jennifer gave me a list of things they enjoy together, a couple of those things were mexican food and wine. We narrowed down our locations and decided we would shoot at Chuy’s Mexican Restaurant in Dallas and la Misha Wine Bar in Mckinney. It just so happened that the day before their scheduled engagement session we had this crazy record breaking snow extravaganza! Since la Misha was in the square in Mckinney (which is an awesome place to shoot) we knew we HAD to get some pictures with the wonderful snow in the picture, it is a very rare occasion for a couple in Texas to have pictures with snow in it, so James and Jennifer were so great to brave the cold weather and get some awesome outdoor shots. James and Jennifer were an excellent couple to shoot because they had no problem just being themselves in front of the camera and on the flip-side were great when it was time to turn on some of their modeling poses. Thank you so much James and Jennifer for making this a unique and fun engagement session! Everyone be sure and stay tuned because this couple will be getting married in Cabo in April, which will be my first destination wedding! I couldn’t be more excited to share their wedding day with them! Enjoy some of my favorite images from this session, don’t forget to click the link below to see additional pictures.

Adam and Amanda met me at the Dallas Arboretum a couple of weeks ago for their engagement session. The cold weather started to ‘conveniently’ show up that day but Adam and Amanda were troopers and willing to stick it out for some fun and awesome engagement pictures. Before we started shooting we had a moment to sit and chat and get to know each other a little better, one of the most interesting things that stuck in my mind was the way that they met. In college they both met while they had a part-time job at Lowe’s Home Improvement in Lubbock, TX. Now when thinking about places to pick up girls, Lowe’s really doesn’t really rank high on my list of potential place. But it sure worked for Adam, so all you single guys out there, keep a look out for the ladies working and shopping at Lowe’s, who knows you could meet your future spouse! Thank you Adam and Amanda for a great session, it was a pleasure getting to know you a little more! Enjoy.

You know there are times when you get together with a group of people and you come up with some fun ideas to do but then weeks go by and it never happens because nobody really takes the lead and sets a date and make it happen? Well I wanted to make sure that didn’t happen when a group of us local photographers started talking about getting together to shoot. It all started as just a light conversation at the first Thursday Therapy hosted by Kelly Simants of Sweet Pea Events. A group of photographers were talking about how fun it would be to all get together and shoot something one evening. That sounded like so much fun to me and I really wanted to get a group of us together and really make it happen! So I took it upon myself to find some models and to set a date. Thus began the first Dallas Photographer Shootout, I wanted us all to just do what we do best and have some fun doing it! I picked a time that gave us enough daylight for those who rock the natural light and then after sunset for those that rock off-camera flash. I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed getting together with my “colleagues” in the area and watch them work their magic. I am so blessed to live in the Dallas/Ft.Worth area because there is some amazing talent in the area of wedding photographers. The best thing about it is that a great majority of us all know each other and are more friends and colleagues rather than enemies or competition. These are the type of people I enjoy surrounding myself with, I don’t bother with any other type of drama that may or may not go on in the industry. This group of people and others that were not able to join us are all about supporting each other any way we can. If you are new to the wedding photography world I suggest you find the same type of people!
Speaking of these wonderful photographers, here is a list of the rockstars who were able to join us for the fun filled evening:
Andrea Crosswhite, Allison Davis, Amy Karp, Catie Ronquillo, Celina Gomez, Jason Anderson, Jason Huang, Josh Littrell, Magaly Abbott, Stacy Reeves & Stephen Brown. I strongly suggest you visit each of these photographers and check out some of their amazing work. I am so happy to know all of these people! All of them will be sharing images from the shootout as well so it will be fun to see everyone’s little spin on the shootout.
Now before I go on and share some of my favorite images from the shootout I have to send out a huge THANK YOU to our models Tod and Ashley!!! Ashley was a teacher at one of the elementary schools I taught at when I was teaching elementary art, and I saw on facebook that she was engaged to Tod and I asked her if they would be interested in being our models for the evening and in exchange get some amazing engagement photos. They were both pumped about the idea and so excited to even be considered since they didn’t feel like they were ‘models’. But after you go through some of these images you wouldn’t be able to tell a difference! I know it had to be so weird for them to be on that side of the camera having 15 people with cameras follow them around everywhere. Ya’ll did such an awesome job and I can’t thank you enough for coming out with us and having fun! This is the most I have ever written for a blog post. So I think I better stop and share. I am going to create a behind the scenes post as well, so stay tuned. Enjoy!
